WHS Theatre Arts Dept. presents
“When in Rome…”
Wickenburg High School’s Theatre Arts Department is proud to present the comedic musical “When in Rome…” Travel back in time with the 16 cast members to ancient Rome where togas are the latest fashion, gladiators are the sports stars of the day and muses are the backup dancers.
With a book by Martin Follose and music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur, tongue-in-cheek humor is delightfully woven throughout the dialogue and 10 songs of this side-splitting musical comedy. The tale begins when peasant thieves Gladius, Minimus, and Julia sneak into the royal palace disguised as handmaidens. They are promptly caught and almost becoming lion food until the Roman princess gets an idea. She must marry soon and if she can’t find a suitable match, her father has decreed that she must marry the last gladiator standing in the upcoming games. Find out how Gladius and his crew save the day. Or do they?
This masterful, eclectic musical will knock your sandals off with songs like the peasants’ comical “I Could Be Royalty,” the Broadway style “Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day,” the muses’ rousing “Last Gladiator Standing” and Gladius’s hysterical “I’m Gonna Die.”
