WHS Theatre Arts Dept. presents
“It Happened on Route 66”
Wickenburg High School’s Theatre Arts Department is proud to present the play “It Happened on Route 66.” Join the cast on a nostalgic trip along America’s most iconic highway, Route 66. The story revolves around Sally, a young and starstruck waitress who is eagerly awaiting the wedding of glamorous movie star Lovey Lamour and crooner Johnny Jerome. However, fate has something unexpected in store for Sally when Lovey herself walks into the diner!
Lovey, on the run from her own wedding, seeks refuge at the diner after her Ferrari breaks down on Route 66. With the relentless press on her trail, Lovey has no choice but to hide out until her car is fixed. The twist? She must maintain her anonymity. Sally, quick on her feet, suggests a plan – Lovey should pose as a waitress!
As Lovey tries to blend in and Sally trains her in the art of waitressing, their scheme faces a looming threat when a persistent news photographer uncovers Lovey’s true identity and tips off Johnny as to her whereabouts. With a cast of quirky characters, including a short-tempered cook, Sally’s geeky boyfriend, a perpetually hungry customer, the world’s worst auto mechanic, and a pre-fame Elvis Presley, this affectionate tribute to the golden age of diners is sure to warm your heart and tickle your funny bone.
