Touring since 2003, Red Sky Performance is a Toronto-based company of contemporary Indigenous dance, theater and music performers under the direction of Sandra Laronde of the Teme-Augama-Anishinaabe (People of the Deep Water). Their goal is to create inspiring experiences of contemporary arts and culture that illuminate themes and values of importance to Indigenous peoples.
Trace is a highly kinetic 60-minute contemporary dance featuring 6 dancers. Inspired by Indigenous (Anishinaabe) sky and star stories, the piece offers a glimpse into human origin as well as its future evolution. Trace premiered in the United States in August 2019 at Jacob’s Pillow and has won two Dora Mavor Moore Awards.
