Wickenburg came home with four AzTEC Awards last week at the annual luncheon held at the Phoenix Zoo. The Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce was recognized with two awards for Gold Rush Days, the Webb Center was honored with one award and Cops Who Care received a coveted award for their partnership with the Webb Center.
The event was the 19th annual AzTEC (Arizona Talent in Event Concepts) Awards luncheon. Each year AzTEC honors outstanding examples of festival and event production and promotion in the State of Arizona.
In the Best Award category for events over 20,000 people the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce won for Best Poster for Gold Rush Days and Best Television Advertisement Spot also for Gold Rush Days.
For events under 20,000 the Webb Center won the category of Best Promotional Event Brochure for their 2012-2013 Season Brochure. Cops Who Care was honored with the Outstanding Sponsor/Partnership Award for their collaboration with the Webb Center’s Camp Imagination. Cops Who Care created a course for Camp Imagination entitled “CSI OZ” based around the crime scenes that occur in the story The Wizard of Oz, the musical produced during the camp.
“It was a wonderful way to introduce children to our police department and see the staff as officers and people; while learning forensic science,” stated Cathy Weiss of the Webb Center speaking at the event.
“We had as much fun as the kids creating crimes scenes around the things that happened in the story. Who stole the apples and who pulled the lions tail?” claimed Chief Pete Wingert of the Wickenburg Police Department. “It was a great collaboration with the Webb Center and to be acknowledged for these efforts is quite an honor.”
