“Guys Who Grill” is a unique fundraising event
that is open to the public and features all male teams competing in grilling, smoking, and barbecuing categories. This year “Guys Who Grill” features some friendly state rivalry, where winter residents can represent their home state by helping to sponsor a team in the competition.
The 3rd annual “Guys Who Grill” will be held at the Wickenburg Community Center, 160 North Valentine Street, on Saturday, March 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is presented by the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts; all proceeds from the event benefit the Webb Center’s “Arts for Kids” educational programs.
The idea for the state competition came from Met & Lana Johnson, winter residents of Wickenburg that live the rest of the year in Wyoming. They both serve on the steering committee for “Guys Who Grill” and thought that a state competition would be a way to bring new energy to the event.
“We see this inter-state challenge as a way to give back to the community where so many of us out-of state residents spend their winters, but it’s also a way to represent the state where we live the rest of the year,” stated Met Johnson. “It’s going to be a friendly competition between Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and other states to see who can raise the most money for the Webb Center’s Arts for Kids program.”
Donations of $50 to $100 will be collected from residents of every home state and used to help teams participate in “Guys Who Grill.” The funds raised will be given to teams to help offset their food expenses to encourage more teams to participate.
Team registration forms are still being accepted and can be found at the Webb Center Box Office or online at the Webb Center’s website, www.dewpac.org/events/gwg.
Anyone interested in donating as a state representative sponsor, can find out more information calling the Webb Center’s Box Office at (928) 684-6624.
