Choreographer Joe Goode is now in Wickenburg developing a new contemporary dance for the Joe Goode Performance Group. The 8 member company has been living and working at the Flying E Guest Ranch for the past week, rehearsing the new piece at the Benner-Nawman Warehouse Studio.
Goode is the Artistic Director of the Joe Goode Performance Group, founded in 1986. Based in San Francisco, the company performs a genre of dance theater; combining text, gestures, humor and Goode’s own deeply physical, high velocity dancing. An innovator in the field of dance, Goode is also a tenured faculty member of the University of California, Berkeley in the department of Theater, Dance and Performance Studies.
The residency’s conclusion on Friday, December 14 at 7:30 pm will be a special workshop performance at the Benner-Nawman Warehouse Studio, with reception to follow.
“This will be the first time we’ve ever had a performance at the Warehouse Studio. It will be a intimate look at the creative process of the choregrapher and a great opportunity to experience dance up close,” said Cathy Weiss, Executive Director of the Webb Center. “The company will perform the work-in-progress, and Joe will have an informal conversation with the audience about the inspiration behind the new work.”
The Webb Center is especially excited to open the Warehouse Studio for a public performance. It is not only a great use of space, but creating a studio in a functioning warehouse demonstates that dance can be created anywhere.
After leaving Wickenburg, the company will continue to develop the work into a full-length piece before premiering it in September 2013, and then performing it around the country.
Tickets to the Friday, December 14 performance are FREE, but need to be reserved through the Box Office at (928) 684-6624. Seating is limited.
